Bangladesh captain Mushfiqur Rahim may be unable to keep wicket due to injury
when the Tigers take on India in a one-off Test match next week, an official
said on Wednesday.
The diminutive wicket-keeper has not fully recovered from the finger injury
he sustained during last month’s home series against Pakistan, but was fit to
play as a specialist batsman, said chief selector Faruque Ahmed.
Ahmed, who announced a 14-man squad for the Test in Fatullah on the outskirts
of Dhaka starting June 10, said the uncapped Litton Das had been kept as standby
in case Rahim was unable to keep.
“Mushfiqur’s batting is fine but we are not sure if he can be the
wicket-keeper,” Ahmed told reporters. “If he can’t keep, Litton will
do the job.”
Bangladesh were boosted by the return of frontline seamer Rubel Hossain, who
missed the second Test against Pakistan due to a side strain. Rubel replaces
Shahadat Hossain in the squad.
The selectors otherwise kept faith with the squad that lost the two-Test series
to Pakistan 1-0.
The one-off Test will be followed by three one-day internationals.
